Dear Marge
Dear Marge,
I’ve only just realized it’s two days after Valentine’s Day and I completely forgot that I was supposed to celebrate. I forgot to talk to my girlfriend or get her a present at all. I realize now it’s probably why she hasn’t been talking to me for the past day and seems really annoyed and mad when I ask her what I did wrong. What should I get her to make up for forgetting, and what should I say to make her forgive me?

Dear JustRemembered,
Wow, you’ve certainly gotten yourself into a pickle. It’s clear that your girlfriend was looking forward to Valentine’s Day and was severely disappointed. It’s apparent that you’ve got to do something quick to make up for it.
Begin by apologizing, sincerely, for forgetting. Be truthful and don’t make up a fake reason as to why you forgot. If there was something serious going on that made you forget, tell her, but don’t lie.
Give her a regular Valentine’s day gift, like you would have gotten her if you had known the day was coming. Flowers and chocolates are always a hit, but if that’s not her style think of something else.
Lastly, keep the relationship going by asking her on a date for this weekend. Lunch on Friday or dinner Saturday night together will definitely be just the thing she was missing on Valentine’s.
If all these don’t work and she’s still mad at you, you have two options: grovel, or reevaluate. Is she the girl of your dreams, or would you rather have someone who was a little less touchy about Valentine’s day?
And that’s the way the cookie crumbles!
-Marge
