The Riverside Brookfield Boys’ Varsity basketball team is heading into the playoffs this year. The Bulldogs are healthy and ready for a title.

Starting point guard Daniko Jackson feels that the team is ready for anything in their way. The main goal for Jackson is making sure everyone is focused.

“I feel that if everyone stays on track to their assignment, we can accomplish the goals we set for ourselves,” Jackson said.

A goal the team set for themselves this season is to win a championship. Last year the basketball team made it to the super-sectional round of the playoffs, but this year’s team believes they can go even farther than they did in the previous season.

“Somethings I could do to help my team is talk to them more and crash the boards more,” junior guard Jalen Clanton says. He said, too, that if they aren’t able to communicate and stick to their assignments, the playoffs will be rough.

The team is hoping to rely on the experience of senior transfer Skyler Nash. He says going into playoffs will have a huge impact on their team, and he knows that they could be the best team in conference.

This past weekend, the boys’ basketball team had a huge game against number-one ranked Morgan Park High School. The top scorers were Charlie Moore with 31 points and Jalen Clanton with 32. Even though the team lost the game, the team feels that their performance showed their championship potential.

“The fact we stayed in the game and led at a point in the game shows our potential as a team,” Jalen Clanton said.

The team has been through a lot this season as they suffered both tough losses and tougher injuries. This Friday the Bulldogs hope to take a victory against Lyons Township, which is the last game of the regular season. The playoffs will start on Tuesday March 1.
