Wall of Fame #7: Billy VandeMerkt

More completions than Donovan McNabb

January 15, 2014

If you’re a quarterback playing under Coach Otto Zeman, that means your going to do about three things: pass, pass, and—yep you guessed it--pass. That is exactly what former Bulldogs quarterback Billy VandeMerkt during his tenure at RB. VandeMerkt holds the state record for first and second most completions in a game with56, and 54. That means no one in IHSA history has ever had more completions in a game, not even NFL great Donovan McNabb (Mt. Carmel). VandeMerkt is also tied for third all-time completions in a season, in state history(287). Along with his numerous other records, Billy also earned two All-State selections.

VandeMerkt is currently playing for Saint Joseph College (Division II), in Rensselaer, Indiana. On October 22, of last year Billy set a GLVC record with nine touchdowns thrown in one game. His performance earned him the Division II player of the week award.
