Seniors Say Goodbye (2022)
At Clarion we try to offer our seniors an opportunity to say goodbye to their time here on staff, to their friends in the program, to their friends at RB, and to our community as a whole. This year’s group of seniors played a special role in the development and, if we’re being honest, the survival of Clarion through a global pandemic. They are a unique and wonderful group who will be sorely missed, though we are certain greatness awaits them all in their future years. Enjoy this year’s Seniors Say Goodbye!

Before I started my freshman year at RB, I was nervous. I was going to a new school where I barely knew anyone and the thought of having to meet new people kind of scared me to be honest, but I was really lucky and met so many amazing people. They were the reason I wanted to come to school. I just knew I wanted to see them and that was one of the biggest motivators for me. Obviously I strove for...

I’ve been in Clairon since my sophomore year and joining was one of the best decisions I’ve made in my high school career. Clarion is such a unique and fun class from being able to write about whatever you want to laying out the hard copy. Even though Clarion is a lot of fun, it also is stressful at times and I think one of the most important things to remember is to have fun. The second you start...

High school is so weird. Each year, we lose ourselves completely, only to find ourselves again, sometimes stronger, sometimes even more precariously planted than before, as we wait for the cycle to start anew. It’s exhausting, really. But it’s what makes high school so special. RB has shaped me into the person I am. I’ve spent most of my time here in the choir room and auditorium, learning...

Let me start by saying that high school is not like the movies. In my time at RB, there were lots of ups and downs but they only made me stronger. I constantly asked myself, “Are you doing enough?” and “What are other people thinking?” I strived to be the best version of myself and I think that by the end of this year I accomplished everything I ever hoped for. With friends and family by...

Life is all about stories. You have a story, your friends have a story, and every action you take becomes part of someone else’s story. I first took Clarion on a whim. I liked writing, thought it sounded fun, and had space in my schedule for an elective. The minute I walked into our old dark lab, I knew this was something different. Mr. Helgeson’s attitude toward positive student outcomes and...

I was only in Clarion for two years, non-consecutively, but both years I can say it was hands down one of my favorite classes. The freedom to write anything I wanted (within reason, of course) was a great feeling. I loved writing for Clarion. I wish I had the room in my schedule to take it all four, but alas. I’m sad to be leaving so soon, as I have a bunch of half-baked ideas gone to waste. I...

My Clarion journey began my sophomore year, and I am very lucky to have been a part of the newspaper that year. I like to think that the amazing Clarion staff my first year helped me fall in love with journalism, but in reality it stems all the way back to elementary school when my friends and I created our own “newspaper” on Google Docs and had our teacher read our weekly issue to the class. In...

As my Senior year reaches its emotional conclusion, I find myself being (unsurprisingly) sentimental over everything that brought me here these past four years. The people I’ve met, and the subsequent friendships I’ve made, the list of school events and functions I’ve attended with friends since freshman year, and the seemingly colossal index of projects I’ve had to fare over the years, at...

Riverside Brookfield High School has taught me many life lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life. I am so thankful for this school; however, I am going to wait until graduation to say goodbye. Right now I want to focus on Clarion. Within the past four years, Clarion has contributed tremendously in how my high school experience has affected who I am. In fact, Clarion is so significant...

I’ve changed a lot over the course of high school. Hardly anything has remained the same over these four years. My appearance, values, sense of humor, friends… you name it. All have changed. I’d say that there has been only one true constant throughout my time in high school, and that constant has been Clarion. As far as I can remember, I only took Clarion because Helgeson came to my 8th grade...

It’s been a wild and, at times, frustrating ride. As I look back on my four years at Riverside Brookfield High School, and my four years in Clarion, I can safely say that I made the right choice picking Clarion as my designated club and elective. I got to interview interesting staff and students, tell their stories, and greatly improve my writing skills. This class has helped me to converse more...

It really was a good four years. I was the runner, the friend, and the one who from time-to-time wrote the unpopular opinion. High school was time to be all three, and I don’t regret it a single bit. I can’t say this is a tough goodbye; the future looks bright and I’m looking forward to writing the next book of my life. I joined Clarion my sophomore year. Even though Clarion is a minor...

I’ve been in Clarion since sophomore year through senior year and I can confidently say that it was one of the best choices I made during the time at RB. It is a really nice class that teaches you a lot of skills and lets you have a creative outlet through the many different articles you can write. There are just so many things you can do. You can write articles about sports on a national level as...
