Grant Lewis

Out of many new teachers this 2022-2023 school year, the applied arts team has a new teacher, Grant Lewis. Lewis teaches a variety of subjects, some of them being consumer economics, child development, and foods and nutrition.

Applied arts courses are meant to provide necessary life skills for students that will prepare them for their life after high school. The foods and nutrition class teaches the basics of cooking and nutrition. The child development course teaches about the different stages children go through. Consumer economics is a requirement for graduation and teaches students about financing.

“My favorite part about each class that I teach would be getting to hear students’ thoughts and ideas, and being able to see their creativity shine through in their work,” Lewis said.

Lewis is excited for a new beginning at RB this school year.

“I really look forward to getting to share my passion of cooking with all of my students, as well as expanding our child development classes. We have some fun projects coming up so I’m excited for that,” Lewis said.

Lewis graduated from Illinois State University, and previously student taught at Lake Zurich High School. As well as being an applied arts teacher, Lewis is a co-sponsor of Riverside Brookfield Gay Straight Alliance (RBGSA).  GSA is a club that supports diversity and inclusivity for all students in the LGBTQ+ community.

Lewis has a fun school year planned for his students, and in the future, he hopes more people will take these classes.

“I just think that these classes are really important and a lot of fun, so if people have the chance to take one to definitely take it. Great life skills,” Lewis said.
