In this penultimate installment of the Lorien Legacies, things are looking down for the Garde. With another member of Lorien’s only chance dead, possibly killed by one of their own, Ella kidnapped by the Mogadorians, the group separated, and the Mogadorian invasion of Earth imminent, the odds seem insurmountable, is this a battle that the underdogs will win?

My only two slight concerns with the book were the beginning and end. The beginning was too slow, and had to set the scene. It seemed like the author just threw in things like the Sanctuary, without ever mentioning them before in any other books, just to fit in the ending. The ending of this book was rather predictable. I saw something like it coming, I pictured it in a few different ways, but the result was the same. I enjoy the ending, I think it works well, but was a little too rushed. There was a lot of build up, and it kind of just fell, but not all the way. I’m being slightly vague because I don’t want to give any spoilers. And, there was a big tease because the book ended sooner, 50 or so pages were previews of the books mentioned below.

There were some plus sides too. The ending, while rushed, left a good cliffhanger, just as good as The Fall of Five. There is no way the reader could not read the next book, which sadly comes out next year; it is so open ended and changes everything, literally. The middle part of the book cleared out some loose ends, like what happens to the Ashwood Estates, Adam’s old home, and what becomes of the random items in the Garde’s Chest. It turns out they are very important. The author has a creative way of splitting up the Garde, (as he has done in books prior,) and reuniting them eventually. We also hear about someone from John’s past, Mark James, bully turned ally, how he has waged a war on the Mogadorians as well.

As I have said in reviews past, it is important to read the stories in between the books. The most recent are the stories, Five’s Legacy, Return to Paradise, and Five’s Betrayal. I suppose the title itself is a spoiler, as to who the traitor amongst the Garde would be. These mini stories talk about Five’s life before he joined the Garde, and what happened to Mark James in the aftermath of the battle at Paradise High. They really augment the reading of Revenge of Seven, I read all three after I read Revenge of Seven, and it helped give some useful background information.

I would give this book a 7 out of 10, the couple points off because of the slow beginning and rushed ending, but the overall content of the novel was quite enjoyable.
