On Monday, October 19, thirty juniors and seniors from RBHS attended the annual MSC (Metro Suburban Conference) Leadership Conference. This year the conference was held at Iron Oaks in Olympia Fields.
The conference is designed to teach team building techniques to the leaders or captains of sports teams. The high schools in attendance were Riverside-Brookfield, Fenton, Timothy Christian, Illiana Christian, Ridgewood, and Elmwood Park.
“It was a very fun day but also very challenging,” said senior and cheerleading captain, Nicole Rocconi, “It kind of showed everyone that not every goal is always attainable but you can always try.”
Students were split up from their school-mates and sorted into groups of 14. These separate groups were then given a series of different obstacles to overcome using only teamwork and dedication skills.
An example of one of these team-building obstacles was getting your team to cross a designated area without touching the ground. The team facilitators then discussed the different experiences with the group and how to apply them to real life situations.
“It was actually pretty insightful as to problem solve whether it be in your sport or in an everyday situation,” said senior Jerry Brown.
