Every freshman comes to R.B. with hopes and goals. The details of the freshman journey are unique, but the themes are universal. Five freshmen were randomly pulled from class and interviewed. Nick Jepson, Adolfo Linares, Nick Kaczmarek, Michael Degand and Renee Kunkel all began their journey on August 17. Clarion will follow the four freshmen this year to see if their goals are fulfilled.
Nick Jepson
Nick Jepson is a bright, already committed student who is in Intro to T.V. Production, taking two languages, and honors classes.
Q. As a student, what goals do you have this year?
A. “As a student, I am trying to progress in my languages, which are French and German. I also would like to receive straight A’s in all classes, and to increase my knowledge and understanding in each class.
Q. What are methods you will use to ensure they are met?
A. “I will study each night and practice my languages each night.
Q. What are obstacles that may stop or slow you down in achieving your goals?
A. My laziness, my math class, (Honors Algebra,) and my Intro to T.V. Production after school class.
Q. What high school stereotype do you see yourself as and why?
A. “I see myself as the kid who has expectations and wishes to achieve a lot. I would like to make my name memorable.”
Michael Degand
Michael Degand is a hardworking student who will look and ask for help when he needs it. He uses his resources to their full extent.
Q. As a student, what goals do you have this year?
A. “To get A’s and B’s, to study hard, to join clubs I have never done before, and to help the school.”
Q. What methods will you use to ensure they are met?
A. “I will have my mom help me with things I don’t understand. I will also ask teachers for help.”
Q. What are obstacles that may stop or slow you down in achieving your goals?
A. “Maybe if I am having a hard time understanding it, it will take me longer. I get distracted easily.”
Q. What high school stereotype do you see yourself as and why?
A. “I see myself as a hardworking student who wants to get into college.”
Adolfo Linares
Adolfo Linares is a determined athlete and student who wants to hit hard on the field, and study harder.
Q. As a student, what goals do you have this year?
A. “My goal is to focus on school work first, then sports.”
Q. What methods will you use to ensure they are met?
A. “I will get my work done on time, and constantly check Skyward.”
Q. What are obstacles that may stop or slow you down in achieving your goals?
A. “After practice there is only about four hours to do homework, which is how homework much there is. There is no time to hang out with friends or relax.
Q. What high school stereotype do you see yourself as and why?
A. “I see myself as a smart jock, because I play football, but work for straight A’s. I am also disappointed if I don’t get them.”
Nick Kaczmarek
Nick Kaczmarek is an athlete who loves football almost as much as life itself. As he says, “I love sports, and sports are my life.”
Q. As a student, what goals do you have this year?
A. “To get A’s and B’s the whole year, and to do well in sports.”
Q. What methods will use you to ensure they are met?
A. “I will study hard, take good notes at school, practice sports at home and participate more during practice.
Q. What are obstacles that may stop or slow you down in achieving your goals?
A. “Sports going overtime or longer than expected and large amounts of homework.”
Q. What high school stereotype do you see yourself as and why?
A. “I see myself as an athlete because I love sports and sports are my life.”
Renee Kunkel
Renee Kunkel aims to be a perfectionist. She already runs cross country and is in most honors. It is clear she hopes to run to success.
Q. As a student what goals do you have this year?
A. “To meet new people and get involved.”
Q. What methods will you use to ensure they are met?
A. “I will join clubs, activities and sports.”
Q. What are obstacles that may stop or slow you down in achieving your goals?
A. “If I have too much homework.”
Q. What high school stereotype do you see yourself as and why?
A. “I see myself as a perfectionist because I need to get everything right and done on time.
Clarion will send out reporters two or three more times in the year to check up on the four students to see how their goals are coming and if they are met.
