For 2023 and 2024, retired athletic directors Tom Domin and Dan Jones will serve as Interim Assistant Principals for Athletics at Riverside Brookfield High School. The two will work together to facilitate an organized and expansive department, while also trying to find someone to take on the role of becoming the permanent athletic director at RB.

Jones, who has twice been named the Athletic Director Of The Year for the division and in 2022 was honored to be a finalist for National Athletic Director Of The Year, is looking forward to helping student athletes and coaches have a successful season.

“I would love to transition RB to the new conference and help with that. I also want to make sure that the athletes and the coaches have everything they need for this year to have a successful season and a successful year. I want to help the administration and community in finding a new athletic director for next year and for the future,” Jones said.

Domin, who has also been Athletic Director Of The Year, has similar goals in regards to the athletic department.

“Between me and Dan Jones, we are really trying to obviously keep all of the activities at full strength, going forward with contracts, and with contests, and making sure the kids have plenty of opportunities,” Domin said.

RB has a lot of exciting sporting events in store for this year. Domin and Jones plan on staying involved and supporting the student athletes.

“We’ve got the fall season coming to an end, we’ve got senior nights coming in, and play-offs. Looks like we are going to be hosting the volleyball regionals, and between Mr. Domin and myself, we are gonna try to attend as many of the play-offs as possible to be there to support the athletes,” Jones said.

One of their main focuses is to enhance the current programs at RB.

“Hopefully you have some new programs that maybe get started. We have almost all programs, so I think we are very comprehensive here, and the facilities are very good. So right now, I think it’s just improving the quality of things and expanding as much as we can,” Domin said.

The biggest change will be the new conference, titled the Upstate Eight starting in the 2024-2025 season. Domin is looking forward to helping prepare for these changes and keeping things organized for the sports programs, as this is a huge change for everyone.

“Next year, all of our teams will be going into the Upstate Eight, with a whole new bunch of teams, some that we know, some that we don’t. So, that transition will be all new schedules and then all new contests with different people. That makes all coaches have a different non-conference schedule, cause we’ll have many more teams in this conference to deal with, so that’ll be a big planning stage for us,” Domin said.

The main goal for interns, Jones and Domin, is to help the administration find a new, permanent athletic director for RB. As they go through this process, they are able to get to know the students and staff at RB, and adjust to the school’s environment.

“I’m very very impressed with Riverside Brookfield and how welcoming they’ve been. The students have been great, and the coaches. This is going to be an outstanding destination for someone who wants to be the athletic director here. This is a great school, and I’m really happy that I am going to be able to help the community and the administration to try to find somebody that’s going to be a good fit for them,” Jones said.
