Fashion predictions for 2024

Fashion+predictions+for+2024
Skylar Neveu

2023 fashion had its ups and downs, whether it was the beloved cargos, low rise jeans, coquette bows, or the Nike tech tracksuits…yikes. You guys look like you’re wearing a morph suit. Now that it’s 2024, it is time to make some fashion predictions. I apologize in advance if I offend anyone reading this, but I am in fact correct.

My first fashion prediction for 2024 is metallics. Metallic dresses already started making a comeback in 2023, but this year, people will incorporate metallics into a variety of different outfits. When it comes to metallics, I’m not really sure how I feel, because it entirely depends on if you are able to style the fit. I do think metallic nails and accessories are so fun, but again, you have to be able to style it.

My next prediction is polka dots. We had our bow moment in 2023, which will proceed in 2024, but it’s time that we incorporate another pattern. I’m not the biggest fan of polka dots, but before we hate, let’s take a moment to reminisce on the early 2000’s. Actually, the more that I think about it, let’s not. If they do become popular, let’s not do the whole millennial blouse thing. I’m thinking more like vintage 1950’s style polka dots instead.

My next prediction is slim cut jeans/pants. Not skinny jeans. I repeat, not skinny jeans! These are actually so cute if styled correctly. It’s kind of like New York style. These are great for casual fits or even work fits.

My next prediction is sheer dresses and sheer layering styled with something under them. These go both ways for me, but I’m honestly excited to see more versatility in 2024.

Along with sheer dresses, I think off the shoulder dresses are going to be super popular. In 2023, people were wearing a lot of off the shoulder tight shirts and sweaters. In 2024, I think that people are going to continue this trend, but with a variety of styles of dresses. This can be sweater, sheer, sequin, or even just skin-tight.

I’ve heard many people say that capris are going to come back, which I am not at all excited about. This is especially if you are wearing capri leggings- absolutely not. Although, baggy capri jeans can be very cute if styled correctly.

2024 is predicted to be a more colorful year than 2023. In 2023, we wore colors like sage green, black, cream, brown, etc, but many designers are trying to incorporate a pop of color into their designs. Now this is not saying that these colors will go away, but we may see more statement pieces this year.

This concludes my 2024 fashion predictions. I like and dislike many of these styles, but an overall theme is that almost anything can look good if styled correctly. I am so excited to see the new trends and what 2024 has in store fashion wise. But seriously, the Nike tracksuits need to go.
