Week five of the 2025-2026 college football season was yet another action packed week with very important games. The game of the week was number-six-ranked Oregon at number-three Penn State, while number-14 Alabama versus fifth-ranked Georgia was another great, high-ranked matchup.
Oregon at Penn State was a game that many people, as well as both teams, have had marked on their schedule for a long time. The question for both teams coming in was how they would look against each other, both being highly ranked. Oregon had dominated all their competition, as well as Penn State, yet neither team had played anyone worthwhile to show how good they really are.
There were also concerns with Penn State quarterback Drew Allar. Allar was a preseason Heisman favorite and projected top-ten pick in the NFL draft. These expectations have been disappointing to say the least, as he has looked like more of a cancer to the team than a help.
The first half of this game was on Oregon’s side as they were up 10-3 at half. The Ducks were even up 17-3 early in the fourth quarter. Penn State was looking like they needed something to get them going on offense. They then came back and scored a game-tying touchdown with 30 seconds remaining, and the game was then sent to overtime. It was back and forth in overtime, and in the second overtime, during which the Ducks were leading 30-24, Allar threw a crucial interception to hand Oregon the win.
Other games of importance included number-17 Alabama taking down number-five ranked-Georgia, number-13 Ole Miss beating number-four-ranked LSU, and unranked Virginia upsetting number-8 Florida State.
Next week’s slate of games include number-three-Miami taking on number-18 Florida State. This game will be a high-ranked rivalry matchup with huge playoff implications. I think that the game will be a shootout type of game where both teams’ offenses are scoring a lot of points and making exciting plays. I also predict Miami will come out on top, though, as they are a much better built team with more high-level guys on the offensive and defensive sides of the ball.
