Girls cross-crountry places 2nd in conference

Last Saturday, October 16th, girls cross-country team competed at the conference tournament. They placed 2nd over all as a team. They competed against many different schools including Illiana Christian, Fenton, and Elmwood Park. The competition was difficult but the girls fought back and finished strong.

The season has now ended for all the girls besides the varsity team that will be continuing to compete in Regionals this Saturday, October 23rd. If the girls place high enough in Regionals then they will move on to State. Last year the team didn’t make it to State but a member of the team was lucky enough to qualify and compete in state. The team is hoping that this year the whole team will be able to qualify for state.

To be part of varsity cross-country you must work very hard during practices to earn a place on varsity. There are only seven spots open so someone else can easily take it. Varsity spots change every race because it all depends on who has the best times.

Sophomore Miranda Ryan said, “This year is a lot more competitive to earn a spot on the varsity team. You never know if you will stay on because it can change so easily.”

During their practice the girls are pushing themselves to bring their times down. They work hard all week by continuing to run after school every day and Coach Sterling still has pep talks and gives the girls inspirational quotes to encourage the girls to work hard and stay forced.
