RB Varsity Basketball team led by young talent

RB Basketball has perennially been on of the strongest sports programs RB has to offer. Thanks to a strong youth system, great coaching, and a hard work ethic. This has lead them to 13 consecutive conference titles. There has never been such a hard time winning conference in recent years, it has been more about how deep RB can go into the playoffs. The players at RB have high expectations.

“We need to have state championship aspirations every year. We have to go into every game believing that we can win.” Hanley said.

Their road to state began with a win in the annual Turkey Tournament hosted at RB. They had dominant performances from game one to the finals. There was no doubting that this RB team was for real after their blowout of Team Englewood 77-33 in the first game. They continued to beat Providence St. Mel 79-45 then Rich Central 66-42 on the way to the final against OPRF.

The team is very strong thanks to the play of a lot of young stars. Daniko Jackson is returning to the team as a Junior and he says he will have a his best season yet.

“I’ve got faster, stronger, and just overall better.” Jackson said

A lot of responsibility is placed on the shoulders of many of the young players with only one senior in the starting lineup. This is a responsibility that Jackson seems to understand.

“I really have made the most progress with my leadership.” Jackson said. Jackson realizing that he shares a leadership role on the RB varsity team will be crucial if RB wants to have a successful season.

Not only is the current team superb, but looking into the future, RB will be amazing if Coach Tom McCloskey sticks with these young players. RB is searching for their 14th consecutive conference title, and with this team, I think they will well exceed it.
