Tennis ends big: 3rd in conference

After a successful season, Girls’ Tennis ended with their Conference match on Saturday, October 9, 2010. RB took third place, with Glenbard South in first and Illiana Christian in second.

In early September, many matches were rained out or incompleted, but the girls won the ones they played with a 9-1 record by September 11.

The next week, the team won 7-0 over Fenton and Willowbrook, but Glenbard South won 7-0 over RB.

On Saturday, September 25, RB hosted an invite where the girls took first place over Elk Grove, Plainfield Central, and Addison Trail. The team took another first the next Saturday at an invite at Leyden, with first place medalists Mollie Quealy at singles, Nina Waszak and Haley St. Paul, and Joanna Keen and Madison Powers at doubles.

“Overall, the season went really well. We had a strong beginning, and it helped us throughout the whole season,” said junior Jamie Payne.

Conference players Becky Pendola, Keen, Quealy, St. Paul, Robin Jensen, Jenny Braun, Alex Gonzales, Waszak, Brittany Janney, Powers and Caitlin Boxell brought the team to their third place finish at the end of the season. Pendola received second place in singles, and Keen and Powers received second place in doubles.

“I had a lot of fun. I’m happy with how the season turned out,” said Janney.

“I’m really going to miss this team next year. I’m glad I got the chance to play and make some really good friends. I’m sad to see the seniors leave,” said junior Boxell.
