On December 3, 2010, the MAC Championship was on the line, and two of the MAC best teams went head to head at Ford Field in Detroit; the Northern Illinois Huskies vs. the Miami of Ohio Red Hawks.
The Huskies were 8-0 in conference while the Hawks were 7-1. The Huskies in their last three-onference games had scored a huge amount of points. They had scored on average over 63 points a game. But they couldn’t pull through another win. The Red Hawks came from behind and won the game in the final minutes 26-21.
The huskies offense was led by junior quarterback Chandler Harnish. Harnish was 15/28 and threw for 281 yards and three touchdowns, but that wasn’t enough for the Huskies. Chad Span, the team’s leadin rusher, carried the ball 17 times but only managed 54 yards rushing and no touchdowns. Martel Moore hauled in four of Harnishes passs for 110 yards and two touchdowns.
On the other side of the field, the Red Hawks were led by red shirt freshman quarterback Austin Boucher, du to injuries. Boucher threw for 333 yards on 29 attempts and threw one touchdown. But hard running Thomas Meriweather did the scoreing on the ground. Meriweather on 11 carries racked up 85 yards and helped out a little more by adding two touchdowns.
If the Red Hawks had not beaten the Huskies, the Huskies nine game win streak would have been continued to ten games, and would have had the chance to set a school recored 11 games won. But the Red Hawks dinminshed thoughs hopes of a recored season.
