Competitive cheerleading gets ready to hit the mats

On December 5th, the competitive Cheerleading season will officially be in progress. After receiving second place last year at the state competition, the girls have high expectations.

“We are finishing up learning our routine and we are super excited to start our season.” Said Junior Rachel Konopaz. Every season the team learns a new three minute routine. They practice five days a week for two hours every day.  The routines consist of cheers, dances, stunts and flips.

Last year, at Mid West Cheerfest, the Varsity team received 1st place. The team lost many of the girls from last season, but still has the same goals.

This year, the girls have two new coaches: Nikki Benson and Elise Presta. Last year’s coach, Chris Borzym, resigned before the season started.

The girls will also be supporting the boy’s basketball teams. The junior varsity team will cheer for the sophomore boy’s team. The varsity team will cheer on the sidelines for the Varsity boy’s basketball team.
