As you know music has been sweeping America for thousands of years. So what makes this year so special? Well, since you asked there have been numerous artists that have brought their own “swagga” this past year. From radio airplay and album sales to simply the trends: the grills, the dances, the oversized tees; can we truly pinpoint what it is that is keeping the dirty south on top? For instance, New Boyz, Roscoe Dash, and Beyonce all call the south home. But who do you think has the most “swag,” North or South?

The north has a unique sound as well; but there haven’t been many songs in the past few years that get the people “amped” up like those from the south. Southern hip-hop song is the rhythm, style of drum and message. Almost every one of the songs rotated on the radio has a similar sound and beat; that trademark is the southern flavor. The beats push you to participate in the various dances the south has coined: getting “crunk” in the club.

Hustlers and Hustlettes from the north are Kanye West, Eve, Jay Z, Nas, 50 Cent, Nikki Minaj, Drake, and Eminem. Southern thugs and thugettes are Lil Wayne, T.I., Ludacris, Soulja Boy Tell’em, Trina, Gucci Mane, and Yo Gotti. Current trademark dances in the south are The Stanky Legg, Footwork, Ricky Bobby, Swag Surfin, Walk it out, Lean Wit it Rock Wit it, 2 Step, Jerkin and Rejectin. Dances in the north are: Break Dancin, Chicken Noodle Soup, and the Harlem Shake.

Students seem to prefer the South over the North because the South has a lot of dances, style of clothes, cars, and attitude. Jasmon Williams said,“The north because we’re here and we got swag on a hundred thousand trillion. No one in the world has swagga like us.”

This is true but some students seem to prefer the north because the rappers are more “hard core” than the south.

My opinion is that I like the south better than the north because the swagger is hotter than the North.
