September 11th, 2011 marked the 10th anniversary of the 9/11/2001 terrorist attacks on the Pentagon, the crashing of United Airlines flight 93 near Shanksville, Pennsylvania, and the two flights that crashed into the World Trade Center’s Twin Towers.
During these tragic 102 minutes, many Americans came together to help one another, whether it was carrying them, giving them water, or even talking them through this rough situation. Many stores were giving out water to people who needed it most and shoes to women who were wearing heels, when they could’ve charged or raised the price since it was a necessity. This was a really emotional 102 minutes for many people in the buildings, watching this happen live, and people all over the US whether they knew someone in there or not.

- The North tower was hit first at 8:46 AM and the South tower was hit at 9:03 AM, but the South tower collapsed first being hit at 590 MPH. (The North tower was hit at 490 MPH)
- When both the towers collapsed, they fell ¼ of a mile down to the ground reaching the speed of 120 MPH.
- In each tower, 10,000 gallons of gasoline ignited and burned out in about 10 minutes.
- 2,749 people died (77% were male, and 23% were female)
- 23 police officers and 343 firefighters died (almost half of whom were on duty).
- It took 1.5 million working hours during the 261 days to remove all of the debris from the site.
- The fires at the site of the World Trade Center burned for 99 days.
- People from 83 different countries died in the WTC.
- The North tower collapsed in an hour, 42 minutes, and 5 seconds, and the South tower collapsed in two hours and forty minutes.
- Each floor of both towers, were an acre big.
- The buildings each had their OWN zip codes.
- It is the first skyscraper ever to be destroyed by terrorists.
